We are now having some nice Florida weather. It's 76 outside right now, with the promise of rain later into tomorrow.

If that happens, we may take ourselves to the casino and spend a little money while it rains!

Just finished reading the trilogy by Stieg Larsson: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire; The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. Very good books, kept me up late reading because I wanted to see what happened next. Have read 4 books so far since we left home.

Here are some more pics taken along the way.

A water tower in Virginia
Life is Good
Two views of a Virginia swan
Not quite so sunny on the day we arrived.

The Adams Family Spanish Moss Tree.
An Orange-Crowned Warbler
Deer Moss, a type of lichen
Pileated Woodpecker, a bit too far away for a good pic.
A Ruddy Turnstone
I can't find anything to match this in my bird book. Any ideas, anyone?
For my bun friends, a Florida bun in our campsite.
and from the South Florida Museum, a Japanese netsuke showing buns doing what buns do best!

enjoy! I'm trying hard to imagine 76 degrees...
Love, Hare

'Course, things do change. Now we are under a tornado watch until 9pm; "tornado watch" being the 2 words in the English language I had hoped never to hear again. :-p

It's nice to see those bunnies cuddling together. There are some like that in my lively room made of cement and visitors always laugh at them. I don't bunderstand why...? It's nice to have a cuddle.....

Sure is, you can never have 2 many cuddles. ^_^

I think you're right; that's the only bird who comes close. The beak says it's a heron; I guess that the neck was drawn down and a trick of the light obscured the usual white front of the neck. I'm getting some nice bird pics again here in FL.

The stripe does not always seem to show - as in this picture: http://www.pbase.com/dadas115/image/107479219

I'm hoping to see all our European herons this year. Bit of a heron addict!

Oh my gosh, that's almost the same pic!

Are there European herons that we don't see here in the States? If so, can you post some pics?

I have been lucky enough to see all the ones in my bird book., except the Least Bittern.

Your testing my knowledge of herons now. In Europe we have grey heron and bittern, which have similar species over your side. Then Little egret and great white egret - again similar species in the States. Cattle egret I think you have and night heron, and little bittern. Two that I don't think you have in the States are squacco heron (my favourite) http://www.google.co.uk/images?rlz=1T4DKUK_enGB309&q=squacco+heron&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=0_lBTdrBDYuFhQf83cT5AQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4&ved=0CDkQsAQwAw and purple heron http://www.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&rlz=1T4DKUK_enGB309&tbs=isch:1&q=purple+heron&revid=1686671149&sa=X&ei=2vlBTbaLMJGKhQfNoMy3AQ&ved=0CC8Q1QIoAA

The Squacco is unfamiliar; the Purple Heron looks like what we call the Great Blue Heron. I think my favorite large bird might be the Spoonbill; my favorite small bird, the Painted Bunting or the Cardinal.

I was assuming your great blue heron was more like our grey heron than the purple. http://www.google.co.uk/images?rlz=1T4DKUK_enGB309&q=grey+heron&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=OvRFTeyCPYbKhAemtKXxAQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=2&ved=0CDUQsAQwAQ

The grey is our common heron, found in many wetlands. the purple bred near us in England for the first time ever last year, and is a specialist reed-bed bird.

Wish we had cardinals!

The cardinals are beautiful. The male has a habit in breeding season of attacking his reflection in
windows and car mirrors, thinking it's a rival.

We also have Phainopeplas, which look like a black cardinal and Cedar Waxwings, which are the same shape, but tan and yellow with a black mask.

Birding is one of my main pleasures when we travel, I'm always hoping for a new speciman.

Yah, he hung around for a while, almost an hour. I got some cute pics.

Ooh I am so fay-moose they named a tree after me!

Hopefully, you are not draped with Spanish Moss.^_^
