Hungry 13 year old
We took Louis and rode up to the North Shore of Long Island this morning, to Cow Harbor in Port Washington, to see the Sand Miners Monument. For many years, from the late 19th century to the mid-20th, this was the premeir sand mining pit west of the Mississippi. It's estimated that 90% of the buildings in Manhattan, up to and beyond the Empire State building were built using Cow Harbor sand.

It's not a huge monument, but it's built above and around one of the last sand pits which were used. It's adjacent to a golf course now.

After that, I treated Louis and Ken to lunch at a local eatery, where Louis demolished an order of King Crab legs and french fries. Ken and I ate our sandwich and salad and watched a 13 year old eat. ^_^
